Shift inspections

Configure pre- and post-shift vehicle inspections for the driver app, and review submitted logs.

Last updated July 19, 2026

ZeitRide can require drivers to complete a vehicle inspection checklist when they clock in (pre-shift) and/or clock out (post-shift) in the driver app. You control which days it runs, which drivers it applies to, and exactly which fields they answer — with no app update needed when you change the checklist.

Configuring inspections

Open Inspections → Configuration in the sidebar. You'll see two cards under Pre/Post-Shift Inspections:

  • Pre-Shift Inspection — shown when the driver clocks in on the mobile app
  • Post-Shift Inspection — shown when the driver clocks out

Changes save automatically. For each card:

  1. Flip the Active toggle on.
  2. Ask on these days — pick the weekdays drivers are prompted. All days selected means every shift; no days selected means drivers won't be asked.
  3. Applies to drivers — check which drivers this inspection applies to (Select all / Clear all). Pre- and post-shift lists are independent, so you can, for example, require pre-shift for everyone but post-shift only for van drivers.
  4. Inspection fields — enable the fields drivers must complete. Each field shows its type — Yes / No, Pass / Fail, Select, Number, or Text — and a Required badge where applicable.

What drivers see

After clocking in (or out), the app opens the Pre-Shift Inspection (or Post-Shift Inspection) screen automatically on applicable days. Drivers answer each field — Yes/No and Pass/Fail buttons, option lists, numbers, or text — and tap Submit Inspection. Required fields must be filled before submitting, and backing out warns that the inspection won't be saved.

The vehicle is attached automatically from the driver's schedule for that date (temporary vehicle overrides included), so drivers don't pick a vehicle manually.

Reviewing inspection logs

Open Inspections → Logs:

  • The table lists all submitted pre- and post-shift inspections with Driver, Vehicle, Type (Pre-Shift / Post-Shift), and Date / Time.
  • Filter by type, driver, or date range, or search by driver name.
  • View inspection opens the full response set; Download PDF exports a single inspection, and Export Excel exports the filtered list.

Tip: Failed Pass / Fail items don't block the driver from starting their shift — review the Logs page each morning so the shop hears about defects the same day.

Per-driver exceptions

Excusing one driver (say, an office employee who only drives occasionally) is done right on the Configuration page — just uncheck them in Applies to drivers for the relevant shift. There's no separate setting buried on the employee profile.
