Blacklisting drivers and vehicles

Keep a rider away from a specific driver or a specific vehicle, from either profile, and see how dispatch and auto-assign respect it.

Some riders shouldn't ride with a certain driver, and some vehicles don't work for certain riders. A ramp may be too narrow or steep for a power chair, seats may narrow the wheelchair aisle, or a van may sit too high for someone who walks. A blacklist records that so nobody has to remember it.

There are two lists, and both are managed by your team using your own judgment:

  • Driver blacklist — this rider never rides with this driver.
  • Vehicle blacklist — this rider never rides in this vehicle.

Add or remove a driver

From the driver:

  1. Go to Employees, open the driver, and choose the Blacklist tab.
  2. Search for the member and click their name to add them.
  3. Click the × next to a member to remove them.

From the member:

  1. Go to Members, open the member, and choose the Blacklist tab.
  2. Under Driver blacklist, pick the driver and click Add.
  3. Click Remove next to a driver to take them off the list.

Both places show the same list, so a change on one side shows up on the other.

Add or remove a vehicle

From the vehicle:

  1. Go to Vehicles, open the vehicle, and choose the Blacklist tab.
  2. Search for the member and click their name to add them.
  3. Click the × next to a member to remove them.

From the member:

  1. Go to Members, open the member, and choose the Blacklist tab.
  2. Under Vehicle blacklist, pick the vehicle and click Add.
  3. Click Remove next to a vehicle to take it off the list.

What a blacklist does

When you assign a trip. If the driver is blacklisted for the rider, or the vehicle the trip would ride in is, ZeitRide stops and tells you which pairing it is. The vehicle is the one picked for that trip, or otherwise the vehicle the driver has at the pickup time. On the Dispatch board you can still go ahead if you need to: click Assign anyway and type a reason. The reason is saved in the trip's history.

Auto-assign and suggestions. Auto Assign and the suggested-driver lists never offer a blacklisted driver, or a driver whose vehicle at the pickup time is blacklisted for that rider.

The trip pool and scanning. A driver can't claim or accept a pool trip, or pick one up by scanning, if they or their vehicle are blacklisted for the rider. The driver sees a neutral message that the trip isn't available and to contact dispatch. It never says who asked.

When a vehicle changes later. A driver's vehicle can change after trips are assigned, for example when the office swaps vans for the day or the driver switches vehicles in the app. ZeitRide never blocks that, because a driver shouldn't be stuck with a broken-down van. Instead, any trip now riding in a vehicle blacklisted for its rider gets a red warning on Dispatch:

  • By stop — a red warning icon on the trip's level-of-service tag.
  • Run board — a small red badge in the trip's corner.

Hover over the warning for details, then move the trip to another driver or give it a different vehicle.

Tip: Recurring trips are checked date by date, when each day's trip is assigned. Keep an eye out for the red warning on Dispatch if a driver's regular vehicle changes.

Who can manage the lists

  • The driver's tab needs access to Drivers.
  • The vehicle's tab needs access to Vehicles.
  • The member's tab needs access to Members.

The same access is needed to see each list.
