Holding a time slot on the Run board
Hold a driver's time while you're on the phone booking a ride, so other dispatchers don't book over it.
Last updated October 29, 2026
When several dispatchers take calls at the same time, two of them can try to book the same driver for the same time. A slot hold stops that. While you're still on the phone collecting ride details, put a hold on the driver's time. Every dispatcher sees it on the Run board, so nobody else books that time.
A hold is not a trip. Drivers never see holds in the driver app, and holds don't appear on reports, invoices or route sheets.
Draw a hold on a driver's run
- Open the Run board (Operations → Dispatch, then Run board).
- In the driver's column, press on an empty spot at the start time and drag down to the end time.
- Let go. The hold appears right away, and every other dispatcher sees it within a few seconds.
Holds snap to 15-minute steps and are at least 15 minutes long. A plain click on an empty spot still opens New trip, as before.
Add a hold from the Unassigned tray
Use this when you don't know which driver yet.
- In the Unassigned tray, click + Hold.
- The hold appears at the top of the tray. It starts at the next quarter hour (or 9:00 AM on another day) and lasts 30 minutes.
- Drag it onto a driver's column when you know who will take the ride.
Move, resize or change a hold
- Move it: drag the hold to another time or another driver's column.
- Make it longer or shorter: drag its top or bottom edge.
- Change the details: click the hold. You can change the driver, the start and end times, and add a note (for example, "Mrs. Lee calling back").
When the call is done
Click the hold and choose:
- Book trip here — opens New trip with that driver and start time already filled in. The hold goes away once you save the trip.
- Keep holding — the call is taking longer. This restarts the hold's timer.
- Remove — you don't need the hold any more.
Any dispatcher can remove any hold.
Holds go away on their own
So a forgotten hold never blocks a driver all day, each hold leaves the board 30 minutes after it was last changed. Moving it, resizing it, editing the note or clicking Keep holding restarts that time.
To change how long holds last:
- Go to Settings → Scheduling Settings.
- Open the Runs & multi-loading tab.
- Under Slot holds on the Run board, pick a time between 15 and 120 minutes, then save.
Assigning a trip over a hold
If you drop a trip on a driver during a time someone is holding, ZeitRide tells you who is holding it and asks Assign anyway? It's a warning, not a block: check with the other dispatcher, then choose Assign anyway or Cancel.
Tip: Holds are only on the Run board. Auto-assign doesn't look at holds, so check the board before you accept an auto-assign plan for the same time.
Still stuck? The ZeitRide team is one message away.
